Job Description

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

Work consists of operating all Tool Room machines and equipment proficiently, including layout and assembly in accordance with engineering specifications to construct, repair, maintain, and calibrate shop tools, jigs, fixtures instruments, patterns, core boxes, machine and equipment parts, furniture and shipping containers.

 

Types of Machines, Tools and Equipment Used or Operated:

Power-driven wood and metal working machines such as lathes, drills, grinders, band saw, cut-off saw, sanders, brace and bit, routers, etc.; hand tools such as saws, planer, hammer, ruler, files, calipers; soldering equipment, etc.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate efficiently all machines and equipment in the Tool Room such as grinder, lathes, milling machines, including CNC mills, drill presses, saws, planer, sanders, mig, tig, arc and acetylene welding.
  • Use all machinist and pattern maker hand tools and precision measuring instruments skillfully.
  • Work from tool sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Fabricate, assemble, construct, and repair metal or wood parts, tools, jigs, fixtures, master patterns, and core boxes.
  • Finishes wood pattern by filling cracks and joints and making radii in angels with wood fillets, wax, or putty. Files, sands, and coats with shellac, lacquer, or other material.
  • Plans proper sequence of operation to carry job to completion with minimum supervision.
  • Lubricate, clean, add coolant, and repair tools, fixtures, jigs, dies, or gages.
  • Make parts for other departments, special equipment, etc.
  • Tests tools made and analyses performance.
  • Perform some welding and grinding.
  • Maintain equipment and working area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • A minimum of 2 years or more of wood working: Cabinetry, carpentry, and fine woodworking, AND/OR
    • A minimum of 2 years or more of metal working: Cutting, shaping, welding, and fabrication of steel and aluminum
  • Tool Use: Band & table saws, handheld power tools, and milling machines
  • Mechanical ability is a huge plus
  • Be able to quickly switch between projects and skill sets as priorities are identified
  • Ability to improvise and think on the move
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, sanding, drilling, etc.
  • Able to move & lift objects between 50-100 lbs. with a team
  • Able to read, understand, and execute verbal and written direction
  • Superior manual dexterity, muscular control, and delicate touch are necessary to complete precision work without damaging valuable molds

 

Other Requirements:

Self-starter – Ability to work with minimal supervision, above average attendance, ability to perform basic skills (reading, writing, math), above average communication skills, safety oriented with no prior safety violations, demonstrate good housekeeping rules and procedures, exhibit diplomacy with management and peers, ability to work extended hours as needed to fulfill orders on a daily basis, train additional personnel as needed, and assist in other areas of the plant as needed.

 

Job Type: Full-time, Monday – Thursday 10 hour/days
